I’m a rule keeper.
Tell me what to do and I’ll do it. Tell me how to behave and I’ll cooperate. Tell me what you need and I will do my best to accommodate you. Show me how to take photographs and I’ll do what you tell me.
I never used to be like this, but now, I seem to be becoming a habitual rule keeper. Sometimes that works, and other times, well, not so much.
A while back I felt God whisper in my heart…
“You’re a rule follower. Sometimes you need to be a rule breaker.”
I didn’t give it any credence because for shame – a follower of Christ not following the rules? I mean, really! That is how Presbyterians became Baptists and Catholics became Lutherans! It’s so… it’s so… un-Biblical isn’t it?
Still haven’t figured that one out, but one thing I know at least as it pertains to the realm of photography, I need to start breaking some rules.
Crop the subject half-way out of the frame on portraiture. Overexpose the heck out of my subject for weddings. Place a bride in white in front of a white background and then high-key the exposure {Ok, still haven’t mastered this one yet!}. Post SOOC shots that are – um – less than stellar. Use red and let it reflect the light and over-saturate the subject.
Though I wasn’t extremely pleased with the photographic results today (and every fiber of my being wanted to edit them to perfection!) One thing I learned… sometimes breaking the rules helps you learn things in life.
